What causes whiplash?
Whiplash is caused by a sudden jolting movement, causing the head to quickly move forward then backward, similar to a whip. One very common cause of whiplash is an auto accident in which a car is rear-ended. The impact from behind causes the back and forth movement which causes whiplash. However, whiplash can also occur due to other events like a sporting collision or any other movement which suddenly forces the head backward and forward.

Whiplash Symptoms
Whiplash’s symptoms usually present themselves within a day or two of the incident, though symptoms may appear immediately. In some cases, there are no symptoms until days or weeks after the incident. The symptoms of whiplash include:

  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Decreased range of motion in the neck
  • Headaches which radiate up the back of the neck to the forehead
  • Tenderness

If you have been in a traumatic event and experience these symptoms, you could be suffering from whiplash. In this case, you should schedule an appointment for an examination with Dr. Wachs. If you have no initial symptoms, seeing your chiropractor immediately after a traumatic event could help prevent further complications.

If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.
